I wish I would have taken this advice more seriously today:
The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; The rest of us just show up & get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come from the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you.
Chuck Close – American painter, artist & photographer
I should’ve followed this good advice from Chuck Close today.
But I let myself get distracted several times.
I thought I would get things done.
That there was more than enough time in the day.
But I was wrong!
It’s not like I didn’t do anything:
- I did spend some quality time with my wife and friends.
- I did the weekly shopping.
- I went mountain biking.
- I managed to keep my Instagram streak going (166 days – A new image every day, see above).
But, I did not accomplish what I had planned to do for this project today.
The day wasn’t a total waste.
But I didn’t do what I told myself I would do.
There was more than enough time.
But I fucked around.
So now I’m disappointed because I let myself down.
So tomorrow – I’m going to show up and do the work.
Put some more intentional effort into this project.
Get some stuff done.
Not just thinking, but doing!
I want to be more than just another amateur.
What about you?
How was your day?
